The City of Liberty Clerk of Council plays a crucial role in documenting, recording, and interpreting the history of Liberty.

The Clerk of Council acts as a vital link between the legislative and administrative aspects of the city government. According to SC state law, the Clerk is responsible for accurately recording and filing all ordinances, resolutions, petitions, and other legal documents.

The duties and responsibilities of the Clerk of Council’s Office involve extensive coordination and interaction with various entities, including:

– City Boards and Commissions
– City Council
– City Departments
– City Committees
– The Mayor
– The Public

In addition to these core responsibilities, the Clerk of Council also:

  • Prepares agendas and records the proceedings of City Council and numerous City Boards, Commissions, and Committees, and attests to all documents issued by the City.
  • Produces municipal records.
  • Processes FOIAs
  • Receives claims against the City.
  • Serves as the custodian of all municipal records and the City seal.
