The
Liberty boys 12 & under all stars won the Dixie Youth District 1
championship Thursday, July 3rd at the Sunset Park location
in Mauldin. The tournament was a double elimination format with 11 teams
competing for the championship and an invitation to the state tournament
to be held in Clemson at the new Nettles Park Complex.
Liberty squared off with Belton, who had advanced through the losers
bracket with one loss. Belton needed to beat Liberty twice for the right
to advance and got off to a good start with a 11-1 win in the first
game. The Liberty squad regrouped and took care of business in the
second game with a 7-4 win.
Caleb Roberts got the win for Liberty with a great performance on the
mound. Nick Bradford had a solo homer and Roberts added a three run
blast to secure the win. Caleb Whitworth turned in a stellar defensive
performance at first base.
The state tournament
starts up Saturday, July 19 at the Nettles Park Complex in Clemson. Liberty will
play the District 8 champion at 4:00 pm.
